What is the Giclee?
Giclee (pronounced "zhee-clay", from the French language word "gicleur" meaning "nozzle") is the process of making fine art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printers employing fade resistant "archival" inks.
The most common printers used are models from manufacturers such as Epson, Hewlett-Packard, Eastman Kodak, Canon, ITNH Ixia, Mimaki, Mutoh, ColorSpan, and Roland DGA.These printers use the CMYK color process using multiple cartridges for variations of each color allowing them to reach a larger color gamut.
Artists tend to use "Giclee" printing processes to make limited edition high end reproductions of their original two dimensional artwork, photographs, or computer generated art. Giclee printing has the advantage of allowing the artist to control every aspect of the image, its color, and the substrate printed on.
